Our trip to Stoke Bruerne

In Year 6, the children had learnt about the Industrial Revolution and the important part that canals played during this period of time. We went to Stoke Bruerne to visit the Canal Museum and learn all about how the Grand Union Canal was built and used. The children got to walk along the towpath to the Brick Pits nature reserve and through the Woodland Walk and watch how the locks worked - some even got the chance to help open and close them! They also went on a narrow boat that took them up to the Blisworth Tunnel and inside - they experienced the darkness within it when the lights went out! It was a very lovely day where history came to life and the children got to experience a snip-it of canal life.
